I was thinking about Roadrunner today. Not the cartoon, the song by Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers. How great is that song? Pretty f**kin’ great. I was also thinking about Hold on Loosely by 38 Special. Also dynamite. 38 Special is very underrated if you ask me. People think they sound like Molly Hatchet or something, but they’re really more of a hard rocking power-pop band. Like if Cheap Trick were a bunch of truckers with beards. Anyway, then I hear Born to Juice by The Dry Look, from their new EP Arid Stare and it basically reminds me of both songs at the same time. Chewy hard-rockin’ hooks and Richman-esque cool-dude drawl. I love it. There’s another jam on here called I Don’t Like You Much that sounds like Jello Biafra fronting Stink-era Replacements. Two more things I like. Dogs in Space kinda reminds me of Gen X (the band, not the actual generation) and The Saints and the only movie starring INXS frontman Michael Hutchence (RIP). See what I’m saying? Even if I’m delusional and way off, The Dry Look still makes me think of a bunch of things I really like. This could be my new favorite band, man. Yours too. We could do it together. And the EP is only $5.oo, so it’s much cheaper than matching tattoos.
PS they’re from Champaign, Illinois. REO Speedwagon‘s hometown. I don’t wanna get into a whole thing but at the end of the day, REO had some sweet jams. Riding the Storm Out? C’mon, man. That’s a serious rocker.
